In view of Run 4 at the LHC, presently scheduled from 2029 onwards, ALICE is pursuing several upgrades to further extend its physics reach. order improve heavy-flavor hadron and dielectron measurements which rely on secondary vertexing, a reduction material budget innermost layers Inner Tracking System needed. This can be achieved with bent pixel sensors, arranged in half-cylinder shapes integrated power lines data buses, allowing get rid most supporting structure water cooling. Moreover, new Forward Calorimeter (FoCal), covering pseudorapidities 3.2<η<5.8, has been proposed measure small-x (down 10−6) gluon distributions via prompt photon production. The FoCal will composed highly granular Si+W electromagnetic calorimeter combined conventional sampling hadronic calorimeter, significantly enhance scope for inclusive correlation mesons, photons, jets.
